WebWise – Looking Back Thirty Years

On October 24, 1995, WebWise Design and Marketing went live with our first three Client websites.

I created those websites at no cost to them in the early years, so WebWise Design & Marketing would have a client list online.

In 1995, not many people in Southwest Wisconsin, or anywhere else, knew much, if anything, about the World Wide Web or even the Internet. If I could get someone to listen, I had to explain what the Internet and the World Wide Web were, and why they'd want to pay me to put their business, community, or organization online.

HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) was first used to create the very first websites in 1991. The first official version, HTML 1.0, was released in 1993. In 1995, HTML 2.0 was published with a few minor improvements.

Creating page layouts was definitely a challenge. Paragraph tags separated content. We used transparent, one-pixel spacer GIFs. We laid out pages by designating how many horizontal or vertical spaces to use. In 1997, tables became available, which made displaying content in **rows and columns**! At the time, it was a very big deal, though tables quickly taught us how code impacts performance and page load time.

Well, that's enough for now of the earliest years here at WebWise.

More to come later…

Adam’s Garlic – Naturally Grown Wisconsin Garlic

Designing and developing a new website for a long-time WebWise client is always a privilege that we don't take lightly.

Adams Garlic header image.Recently, we had the opportunity to work with Angela Adams and develop a new WooCommerce website for Adams Garlic in Southwestern Wisconsin. Don and Angela Adams began growing garlic near Cassville, Wisconsin in 2013. Their garlic farm is truly a family farm as you may read on their About Us page.

Adams Garlic specializes in growing hardneck garlic seed and culinary garlic. Their garlic is grown using sustainable farming practices, without the use of chemical pesticides, herbicides, or synthetic fertilizers. In order to keep the weeds down and maintain moisture, they mulch with corn fodder in the fall after planting.

Want to know more about growing garlic? Read Angela's Growing Garlic Guide. Before you leave their website, order some Southwest-Wisconsin grown garlic! You will be glad you did.

Showcasing the De Soto, WI Area

A New Tourism Website Launch

The WebWise Design & Marketing team is proud to announce the launch of a new website for the De Soto Area Tourism Commission: desotoareatourism.com.

De Soto Area Tourism Website imageWe had the pleasure of working with Gary Mulford, President of the De Soto Area Tourism Commission, and committee member Jenn Swiggum to create a website that will serve as the cornerstone of the Commission’s tourism marketing efforts. The site is designed to attract visitors not only from the local region, but also from across the Midwest and beyond.

Nestled in the heart of the Driftless Area and bordering the majestic Mississippi River at Pool #9, the De Soto area offers unique natural beauty and a wide array of recreational opportunities. The new website highlights what makes this part of Wisconsin truly special—whether you’re into fishing, hiking, scenic drives, birdwatching, or simply enjoying the friendliness in the bars, restaurants, wineries or shopping experiences of a small river town.

We invite you to explore desotoareatourism.com and discover everything the De Soto area has to offer. From local events and lodging options to outdoor adventures and historic sites, the new site is a comprehensive guide for planning a visit to this hidden gem in southwestern Wisconsin.

Town of Clayton, Crawford County, WI

Town of Clayton Photos

The WebWise team recently had the privilege of working with the Town of Clayton in Crawford County, WI Chairperson Bill Olson and Harriet Behar, the Chair of the Town Plan Commission. Bill had first reached out to us about developing one our WebWise Towns & Villages Websites.

Harriet was our point of contact for the Town and did a great job of gathering information and photos and to keep the project moving.

Clayton Township is located in the southwest Wisconsin Driftless Area known for its scenic bluffs, steep hillsides, valleys, and clear trout streams. Hunting is a popular activity, with abundant whitetail deer, wild turkey, squirrels, and raccoons.

The Kickapoo River forms the township’s western boundary, and the well-known Gays Mills apple orchards are primarily located within Clayton’s borders. Each spring, visitors enjoy the blooming apple blossoms, and in the fall, farmers markets offer fresh fruit, vegetables, meats, honey, maple syrup, mushrooms, baked goods, and more. Small farms are a big deal in the Town of Clayton!

The new website is ADA compliant and provides easy access to town news, meeting notices, ordinances, and information. Whether you are a resident or planning a visit, the website is a helpful resource for staying connected with the Town of Clayton in Crawford County Wisconsin and its surrounding natural beauty.

BF Lawncare Website Launched

BF Lawncare lawn mowing photoThe WebWise Design and Marketing team recently had the privilege of working with Jordan Bussan-Foley, the owner of BF Lawncare located in southwest Wisconsin Village of Muscoda, WI. We met in our conference room to get to know Jordan, learn about his company and services, and to discuss the objectives he had for his website. If you've had the opportunity to meet Jordan, you know that he came to the meeting prepared.

Established in 2017, BF Lawncare serves the following communities and surrounding areas: Fennimore, WI — Livingston, WI — Dodgeville, WI — Platteville, WI — Montfort, WI and other communities in Grant County of southwest Wisconsin.

BF Lawncare landscaping - photoWhile he and his team have been extremely busy. With grass growing constantly and quickly, and the need to work between storms, Jordan found the time to get us photos and web copy in a timely manner.

Although it's too early to talk about snow and ice, Wisconsinites know that winter is inevitable. If you live or work in southwest Wisconsin, BF Lawn Care has you covered, or rather, uncovered. They clear ice and snow from your sidewalks, driveways, and parking lots. You can depend on them for timely and professional snow and ice removal.

There is still time to have some landscaping done, and it is not too early to book snow and ice removal services.

Do yourself a favor. Take a look at the BF Lawncare website and give Jordan a phone call.
